Project Stories - Examples of Tailored Approaches to Address Challenges in FCAS and SIDS
The stories that follow highlight how the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has applied contextualized and tailored approaches in completed or ongoing projects and programs in fragile and conflict-affected situations (FCAS) and small island developing states (SIDS). Each story contains a sidebar highlighting how the respective project or program aligns with all or most of the five principles of tailored approaches in FCAS and SIDS:
- (i)
be context-specific,
- (ii)
pursue risk-informed solutions,
- (iii)
ensure broad and enduring engagement,
- (iv)
develop capacity, and
- (v)
adapt and respond to challenging or changing situations. 1
These principles support the FCAS and SIDS Approach’s (FSA’s) operational objective of improved performance of ADB operations in FCAS and SIDS, and its development objective of improved livelihoods, inclusiveness, and resilience in these developing member countries (DMCs).
